Multiple undercover police officers from the New Haven Police Department identified the subject of an active warrant in the area of Lamberton Street on Tuesday, Jan. 8 around 5:45 p.m.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Marcus Rivera of Quinnipiac Avenue in New Haven. Rivera fled on foot, engaging officers in a pursuit, state police said.
Officers apprehended Rivera, who broke free and continued to flee from officers, according to police. There was an exchange of gunfire during the pursuit, and police were eventually able to catch Rivera around First Avenue and place him under arrest.
Rivera sustained a gunshot wound to the pelvis area during the pursuit and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
Rivera was released on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 15 and transported to police headquarters in Bridgeport. He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and taken to New Haven Superior Court for arraignment.
Investigations are ongoing. Additional charges are pending.
